FAISALABAD:

A man and his wife were arrested on Thursday for misbehaving with an anti-polio team in Faisalabad.

Tandlianwala police said Kausar Bibi, a health worker, had told police that Iqbal and his wife Allah Rakhi had abused her when she and her team members were administering polio drops to children in Chak 416.

The Tandlianwala Station House Officer (SHO) said the police had registered a case on Kausar Bibi’s complaint. “The accused have been detained,” he said. Separately, a police inspector was accused of misbehaving with an anti-polio team in Faisalabad.

Samina Bibi, a health worker, told the media that the police official abused her when she went to his house in Nazimanad to administer polio drops to children.

“The inspector also threatened me with dire consequences,” she said.

A Health Department official speaking on the condition of anonymity told The Express Tribune that Samina Bibi filed a complaint with Factory Area police.

He said the dispute came to an end and a compromise was reached between Samina Bibi and the policeman after Health Department officials intervened.

Why was the policeman not charged and arrested? No leniency must be shown to people who misbehave or threathen polio workers.
