Avoidable tragedy: Labourer killed, 13 injured in factory collapse

A labourer was killed and 13 others were injured when an under construction ice factory collapsed near Jamil Chowk, Ring Road on Sunday afternoon.


At least 14 workers were trapped under the debris when the structure suddenly collapsed.

Rescue 1122 pulled them out, but one person had died while the other 13 seriously injured and were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Saifullah, a resident of Wahid Garhi, while Muhammad Saeed, Taj Muhammad, Wali Khan, Alaowdin, Abdul Qayum, Ismail Khan, Raj Wali, Irfan, Asad Ali, Imtiaz, Ziaur Rehman, Humayun and Zirat Shah are injured. Some of them are in critical condition.

“The building collapsed due to lack of precautionary measures and use of substandard materials,” said a Rescue 1122 official.
