Eighth in a row: Journalist panel clean sweeps in NPC polls

For 15 governing body seats, a total of 42 candidates participated and Journalist Panel succeeded with heavy margin.

For eighth time in a row, the Journalist Panel secured both the office-bearers’ and governing body seats of the National Press Club during its annual elections here on Thursday.


Shehryar Khan was elected president for the year 2013-14 who secured 1,206 votes against his opponents, Nawaz Raza and Matiullah Jan with 262 and 203 votes respectively.

Tariq Chaudhry and Waqar Satti were elected general secretary and finance secretary respectively. Abdul Razaq Sial was elected as Vice President.

The poll started at 10am and continued till 8pm. Out of the total 2,704 registered voters, only 1,694 journalists turned out to cast their votes.

For 15 governing body seats, a total of 42 candidates participated and all the members of Journalist Panel succeeded with heavy margin.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif congratulated the newly elected office-bearers and said the responsibility of media towards the society has grown manifold. He added that the government believes in the freedom of expression and will facilitate media in the performance of its obligations.
