Ali’s half-ton helps KRL maintain 100% run

KARACHI: Ali Khan scored a gutsy half-century to help KRL maintain their unbeaten record in the event as they defeated PQA by seven wickets in their President’s One-day Cup Friday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Set a meagre target of 134, KRL were rattled upfront by PQA’s pace attack as they were reduced to 39 for six and looked all set to for defeat. However, Ali rose to the occasion, scoring 57 off 69 with three sixes and as many boundaries. He also built a 92-run seventh-wicket stand with Zulfiqar Jan (32) to help KRL score 134 for seven in 39.3 overs.

Pacer Mohammad Sami and Tabish Nawab took two wickets apiece.

Earlier, PQA were bowled out for 133 in 34.5 overs after being asked to bat first. Shahzaib scored 59 off 54 with two sixes and six boundaries. Yasir Ali claimed a five-for while Nayyar Abbas grabbed three wickets.

KRL now have eight points from four matches.

Farhat stars in HBL win Discarded opener Imran Farhat played an 87-run knock to steer HBL to a 94-run victory against UBL at the Marghzar Ground in Islamabad.

Batting first, HBL posted 294 for four in 45 overs as Farhat faced 78 balls, hitting a six and 11 boundaries in the process while Shan Masood made a 65-ball 50 and Younus Khan chipped in with 48.

In reply, UBL were bowled out for 200 in 40.4 overs. Wajihuddin scored 40 while Sulaman Qadir claimed three wickets. Fast-bowlers Umar Gul and Ehsan Adil took two wickets apiece.

In another match, wicket-keeper and batsman Mohammad Rizwan scored a 115 off 116 studded with 13 boundaries that helped SNGPL defeat PIA by five wickets at the National Ground.
