Shia leader shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Unidentified armed men gunned down a Shia leader in the limits of the Kotwali Police Station on Thursday, police said.

A police official from Kotwali Police Station told The Express Tribune that Sardar Hussain was on his way home in Mohalla Sheikhul Islam, when two unidentified persons opened fire on him. He was rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where he succumbed to his injuries.

The official said that Hussain was returning after dropping his children at Hayatabad, when he was attacked by two gunmen who managed to escape soon after.

The official said that Hussain had no enmity with anyone and had not received any kind of threats; however, he said that the incident could have a sectarian motive.

He said that Kotwali police have registered a case and launched investigation.
