Look fresh and glowing in autumn by incorporating these fruits and veggies into your diet .

In most literary texts, autumn symbolises the dull and arid and makes many of us, if not all, feel just the same. While it is a precursor of the much-awaited winter season, autumn calls for doubling the attention that we pay to our health regimen. Our skin, which usually bears the brunt of autumn’s dryness, must be nurtured and protected. Here, we have combined a list, from IANS and glamourmagazine.co.uk, of top five fruits and vegetables that will make you look as fresh as a summer breeze in autumn.

Garlic:

Most of us would keep away from garlic due to the inevitable halitosis that follows eating it. But that can always be taken care of! Each clove of garlic is packed with a naturally occurring chemical called allicin, which reacts with the blood to kill harmful bacteria and viruses that cause acne and skin infections.

Sweet potatoes:

Sweet potatoes comprise of vitamin C that heals and combats acne-causing bacteria. They have vitamin-packed complex carbohydrates and beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A when digested and helps improve oxygen circulation to the skin.

Pumpkin seeds:

Full of zinc, which aids the creation of new skin cells and collagen formation, pumpkin seeds control the production of oil in the skin and enhance complexion. Each kernel contains vitamin E and omega three and six fatty acids, which are ideal for skin clearing.

Apples:

There’s nothing forbidden about this “forbidden fruit”! Excellent for delaying signs of ageing, apples protect skin cells and the vitamin C found in them helps tone up skin and makes it firmer.

Beetroot:

Beetroot is a great source of anthocyanins, which is a powerful antioxidant that reduces inflammation and slows down the ageing process and thus, prevents wrinkles.
