The military leadership on Thursday vowed that any violation of Pakistan’s borders will invite retaliation.
“Pakistan has full capacity of dealing with terrorists within its borders and any attempt of hot pursuit will be unacceptable,” resolved a corps commanders meeting chaired by Pakistan army chief General Parvez Kayani in Rawalpindi.
The conference was held to review all aspects of the recent events of border intrusion. Thursday’s meeting expressed satisfaction over operational preparedness of the Pakistan army. It also discussed in detail the security situation in the country.
According to military sources, the corps commanders’ conference vowed to safeguard sovereignty, security and defence of the country at all costs. The meeting agreed that the military will continue working on rehabilitation projects in flood-hit areas.
The corps commanders and principal staff officers were briefed about the geo-strategic situation and regional security in detail in the meeting.
According to sources, the participants of the meeting were also briefed on the situation that emerged after the recent events of intrusion on the borders, apologies tendered by the US and Nato, report of the joint investigation committee and prevention of such events in the future.
The army chief also took the participants of the meeting into confidence regarding important issues of national and internal security. He also informed them about contacts made by the Nato commander and US Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and the letter and assurances extended by them. Additional input from Online
