ASWJ Karachi chapter spokesperson Maulana Akbar Saeed Farooqi, 26, was killed in an assault on University Road after he was returning from a party protest. Unidentified armed men opened fire at him near Safari Park. He was taken to Liaquat National Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
“The National Crisis Management Cell had informed the Home Ministry of a hit-list, which also included Maulana Saeed’s name. He was at risk but the government did not provide him with any security despite repeated appeals,” ASWJ Karachi chief Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi told The Express Tribune.
He further said that ASWJ men were being targeted across the country. “Nine Ahle Sunnat men were killed in Bhakkar, while three innocent madrassah students have been killed in Islamabad within three days.”
Sunni Tehreek leader laid to rest
Separately, the funeral of Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) sector-in-charge, Javed alias Kaka, who was kidnapped and found dead from Gulshan-e-Maymar on Saturday, was held on Sunday at a shrine next to the Hari Masjid in Old City area.
Security was beefed up at his funeral. There were reports of indiscriminate firing in Old City areas, including Kharadar, Mithadar, Ranchore Lines, Aram Bagh and Garden before and after the funeral. Unknown suspects also set a bus on fire.
Meanwhile, a token sit-in was also organised after the funeral. PST has given a 24-hour ultimatum to the government and law-enforcement agencies and also announced mourning for three days. “We can respond to bullets with bullets as well. But we don’t want to be a part of this war,” said PST chief Sarwat Ejaz Qadri, addressing those who attended the sit-in.
“We do not want to create a Bhakkar-like situation in Karachi. The government and law-enforcement agencies should stop supporting the criminals.”

Qadri did well to control his crowd and cool down the situation. Answering bullet with bullet is not suitable for the city.
Sad :(
shame on all the people who support the real insurgents in Karachi so called the leaders of Karachi. why the CM or any government official is not resigning
@Aysha M: Taking your words on face value, implies that local government present in Karachi on May 12, 2007 wasn't 'effective, independent and powerful' enough to stop the massacre of people on that day. Right?
Karachi is a truly scary place. I have owned firearms since I was nine. I have been in 5 exchanges of gunfire with no one killed. I have lived in areas where blood fueds were normal, and yet Karatchi seems to have an extrordinary murder rate. A rickshaw driver was simply executed or a students shot down like dogs. live in a community with over 100 churches, most of whom do not get along. We have both right wing and left wing groups nin our town. We have all kinds of immigrants, Native Americans and many WASPS. Do we all love each other? No!! Are we all armed? Yes! Still murders are rare and ususally involve illegal drugs. The discussion of religion and politics are avoided except when both parties deliberately open such a discussion. We may not love all of our brothers but in fact we must espect them. The right to be different is a recognized right in our community. Our police reuired to do their jobs without a tip or bribe. Prison awaits a corrupt judge or state official. We lack perfection in any form and we are a violent people, but we respect or fear our legal system.
The issue is that the people of karachi are never given the opportunity to handle their own fate, the legislation is such that the rural areas control the urban areas the only time this did not happen was under Musharraf and Mustafa Kamal and karachi prospered, so yes I totally agree@Janet Garcia Texas USA:
May Allah bless his soul and give strength to the aggrieved family to bear the loss (ameen) Effective, independent and powerful local government is the only solution to the woes of Karachi. All those who are concerned for the peace of the city should support demand of a city government for Karachi with political, financial and administrative mandate and policing under the city administration
The world watches with sadness as Pakistan allows a great city like Karachi to become its super attraction: aka the killing fields. The ethnic cleansing has to stop cannot the government declare martial law in the state of Karachi to tone down the senseless killing of ethnic cleansing? Most decent nations would not allow this to happen so often for so long or is it the citizens of Karachi just don't care? No serious effort seems to be on the horizon the killings continue, the press reports the funerals are performed. The only people who can stop this random acts of killings is people from Karachi so we wonder where are you hiding come out of your comfort zones and do something!
What Nawaz government has done to stop target killing??? Interior minister gave deadline to Sindh Government to curb this, what happened to that deadline?? U Turn??
Well done. Sensible reponse. Somebody is trying to placate you and start a civil war. Your response is a slap on their faces.
