QUETTA:

Lawyers belonging to different organisations boycotted the national flag hoisting ceremony on Independence Day to protest appointment of additional judges.

Called by the Baloch Lawyers Action Committee, a demonstration was also held near provincial High Court, after lawyers voiced their resentment against the appointment of additional judges and did not attend the flag raising ceremony in the provincial capital.

A schedule of prolonged protests and boycott of provincial courts has also been announced by the lawyers during the stay of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Quetta.  The lawyers are demanding that the judicial committee reconsider recent appointments of additional judges, threatening to continue protests if their demands are not met.
