RAWALPINDI:

The kidnapping and manhandling of a senior lawyer by unknown culprits on Sunday sparked a massive protest by the legal fraternity as the District Bar Association (DBA) announced a complete strike today (Tuesday) to denounce the incident.

According to DBA General Secretary Malik Zaheer Arshad, Advocate Basharatullah Khan got a phone call from unknown men asking him to represent them in a case. When the lawyer went to meet the persons, he and his driver were kidnapped near DHA Gate 2 on the GT Road, thrashed mercilessly and later thrown out near Rawat. A complaint has been lodged at the Sihala Police Station, Arshad added.

This decision to strike came on Monday during a DBA Executive Committee chaired by DBA President Malik Israrul Haq and attended by the general secretary, vice president, joint secretary and a large number of lawyers.

Arshad said, The DBA will observe a complete strike on Tuesday and no lawyer will appear before any court to protest the incident,” while appealing to the government to provide protection the legal fraternity.
