The house of an independent candidate was partially damaged when a bomb planted by unidentified militants exploded in Qamber Khel area of Bara, Khyber Agency early Friday morning.


Political administration official Arshid Afridi said Haji Munsif, an independent candidate from NA-46, reported a blast near the boundary wall of his house at around 3am.

Munsif’s sons told him a large portion of the wall was destroyed, after which the family went outside to see what had caused the huge explosion.

During their visit later in the morning, the bomb disposal squad (BDS) defused the remaining half of the explosives as only those in a canister had exploded, said Afridi. He added the explosives were planted with the intention to destroy Munsif’s hujra.

ANP convoy targeted

An Awami National Party (ANP) activist was injured when a roadside remote-controlled bomb exploded near the party’s convoy in Shewa village of Swabi on Friday evening.

Parmuli police official Mukhtiar Khan said the incident occurred at around 6:30pm near the Shewa Graveyard, leaving an ANP activist injured.



Khan said Amir Rahman, ANP’s candidate for PK-32 Swabi-II, was on his way to inaugurate the party’s election office camp in Shewa village when another car carrying activists was partially destroyed in the blast. The injured worker was taken to a nearby district headquarters hospital where he was said to be in stable condition.

Khan added the inauguration ceremony was postponed after the explosion as panic gripped activists. He informed an informer spotted a motorcycle in a crowded market in Shewa late Thursday night, after which the BDS rushed to the site along with police officials and defused one kilogramme of explosives planted near the motorcycle.
