LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan will contest the elections from NA-122 and NA-125, Express News reported on Tuesday.

Earlier, Imran Khan had submitted nomination papers for NA-126 as well, but has withdrawn from the Lahore constituency.

Khan will now contest elections for five national assembly seats from the constituencies NA-1 (Peshawar-II), NA-56 (Rawalpindi-VII), NA-71 (Mianwali-I), NA-122 (Lahore-V), NA-125 (Lahore-VIII).

The ECP started scrutiny of the nomination papers from April 1.

For the first time in Pakistan’s history, three of the country’s top institutions – State Bank of Pakistan, National Accountability Bureau and Federal Board of Revenue – will screen candidates’ backgrounds for criminal conviction, loan default, tax evasion and other financial irregularities.

All the rich Middle class localities Cantt area , defence , cavalry ground , saddar, walton and mostly the people who dont belong from Lahore but registered here after buying property live in NA-125. You may be surprised by the higher level of participation in these elections. When people feel that their vote counts and the assemblies will make an impact on the affairs of the country, they tend to vote in large numbers. A good example is the overwhelmingly high participation level in the recent elections in Middle Eastern countries caused by the Arab Spring uprisings. Even in the 2012 US Presidential elections the percentage of voters that cast their votes was 67.4 percent, and I believe that was considerably higher than in some of the elections in the past. I would also like to add that this is a good opportunity for our people to let their voices be heard by kicking out the inefficient and insolent legislators and to vote for the new blood that may do something to improve the lot of our people.

What’s the deal with running for multiple seats? This should be illegal. Have the courage of your conviction and run for one seat, preferably fom the city where you live. Allow others from your party to contest in the multiple seats that you now run for.

Imran Khan being a former cricketer, a fast bowler should have contested six seats keeping in view six balls per over and score a hat-trick and if he is able to win more would be a world record.

@ Zahir cheema: You can call me a burger, I spend 6 hours on internet each day majority of which goes to facebook. I spent 30k on Lahore trip to attend Mar 23rd Jalsa of which Gen Pasha didn’t pay me a single penny. Driving like 1500 km alone couldn’t force me change my plans. I went there and stood there for 6 hours, went completely wet but didn’t move. Such is my spirit and such is my passion for that man known as IK. If I can do all that stuff, people like you should be rest assured that its much easier for me and hundred of thousands more like to me to walk few hundred yards to the polling station to vote. We will do that, you just need to wait and see.

It appears that Khan is not as confidant as portrayed in the political market place. If he was sure of being elected he would have contested from One seat only. The candidates contesting from more than one seat are afraid of losing a typical old style member parliamentarian mind set. He has proved himself to be like any other routine type political figure.

I think he didn’t like the fact that Meera has decided to contest against him. But on serious note NA 126 or 125 is not very different. @ Zahir Cheema you can’t discriminate Lahore into pure Lahore or vice versa. Lahore is not retricted to areas which you are referring to as old Lahore. The city has well expanded beyond the original walled city. You cannot label former to be more lahoris and later as burgers.

But could he or she close their eyes for a minute and think what Shareef’s has done for this country during their previous terms (you can argue 2 or 5 terms but definitely it is more than once) and do you think they will do any different? I will doubt that.

85 million registered voters this time around compared to 45 million of last time out of which only 9 million used their vote of which the ruling part got 5 million votes . So conservatively speaking even if 30% of the total voters turn out on the election day ir-respective of whether they pertain to urdu class , english class , burger class we will have 25 million votes during this election. Among the new voters IK is undoubtedly the preferred choice. If we finally take into account the fact that the last government only managed to get 5 million votes which were primarily due to the sympathy factor we can symbolically predict a sweeping win for IK only taking into account the new voters that have entered the regime with their die hard loyalty for IK. If figures are to go by IK will make a clean sweep if we get free and fair election. Its a big IF but the game of probability and logic is pointing towards IK as the next PM with a clear margin.
