YAR HUSSAIN:

A local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP) and his brother were severely injured when unidentified militants opened fire at them on Urmal Road in Swabi on Saturday.

An official of Yar Hussain police station said Maqsood Khan, ANP’s district security chief, and his brother Munsif Khan were on their way home when unidentified gunmen on a motorbike intercepted their car near Balarh Bridge.

The official said residents from the nearby area rushed to the site after the incident and shifted the injured to Rural Health Centre Yar Hussain, from where they were referred to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

He added the injured brothers claimed they had no enmities and filed a case against their attackers.

Militants have been targeting ANP leaders in the recent past. On December 22, senior leader Bashir Ahmad Bilour was killed in a targeted suicide attack.
