LAHORE: The Afghanistan cricket team arrived in Multan yesterday to continue their ongoing month-long training tour in Pakistan ahead of their international fixtures against Scotland in March.

After beating the Shahid Afridi-led Karachi-Hyderabad team by nine wickets on Wednesday, the tourists are set to take on Bahawalpur-Multan in a limited-overs match today.

Talking to reporters at the Multan airport, team manager Mohammad Shafiq said the entire training session would prove beneficial for the visiting team.

“It is a valuable opportunity for our team to overcome their weak areas and to learn new tactics as well,” said Shafiq.

The manager expressed complete satisfaction over the security arrangements for the tourists.

“Sportsmen are ambassadors of peace so we don’t have anything to fear. Furthermore, the Pakistan Cricket Board has provided adequate security for us.”

The regional team of Bahawalpur-Multan will be captained by fast-bowler Kamran Hussain, who hails from Bahawalpur.
