SWABI:

A cleric was gunned down by unidentified assailants inside a mosque in Shah Mansoor village of Swabi district late Wednesday night.

When Moulana Naseebullah did not respond to repeated calls for Fajr prayers, a resident of Mohallah Muqbara went inside his room and found the cleric lying dead on the ground.

Police official Shah Nawaz Khan confirmed the incident and said two hollow shells of pistol bullets were found lying beside the body.

Police shifted the deceased to Bacha Khan Medical Complex for autopsy, which revealed that Naseebullah was shot twice, once in the head and once in the chest.

“The wounds were fatal and instantly killed the cleric,” said Khan, adding that an FIR has been registered against unidentified men.

The body was later shifted to Tirah, the cleric’s hometown, for burial.

This was the second targeted attempt in Swabi in the new year. On January 1, unidentified gunmen shot dead six women and one man working for an NGO in Sher Afzal Bandha area Chota Lahor tehsil.
