KARACHI: PAF failed to go top of the standings after a shock 1-0 loss against KESC in the Pakistan Premier Football League yesterday.

KESC, playing without their captain, competed well in the first-half without conceding. The match looked to be heading for a draw but 11 minutes from the final whistle, Muhammad Riaz’s headed goal created prospects of an unlikely KESC win. PAF failed to score, handing KESC three points. PAF’s soach Muhammad Arshad blamed poor refereeing for the loss.

“Had we won this match, we would’ve been top of the league,” Arshad told The Express Tribune. “But the referee failed to control the match. Two of my players are injured now. Mansoor Khan, 16, was tackled very roughly and the referee did nothing about it. He has picked up a knee injury now. It’s highly irresponsible of the Pakistan Football Federation to not appoint quality referees. We spend almost Rs 600,000 each season on the team and it’s not fair to lose a match and precious points due to poor refereeing.”

Despite the win, KESC remained fifth with 45 points after 20 matches, while PAF stayed third with 49 points after 25 matches. Army and KRL top the table.

In  other matches, Afghan FC failed to show up at the venue in Noushki for their match with Baloch FC who were awarded a walk-over. KRL beat PMC Athletico 4-0.
