Gilani vows transparent aid distribution

Prime Minister calls on provinces to ensure non-discriminatory aid distribution and an end to in-fighting.

September 06, 2010

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has asked the provinces to ensure non-discriminatory aid distribution in flood affected areas across Pakistan.

Chairing the meeting of Council of Common Interests in Islamabad, the premier said that 177 countries have assisted in flood relief efforts so far. He added that foreign aid will be transparently distributed so that work on rehabilitating flood victims and rebuilding hundreds of roads and bridges can be executed fairly.

He has also assured the Council regarding the equal distribution of Rs4 billion collected in the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

Saying that the country needs a medium-term development and disaster support strategy, Prime Minister Gilani also called upon the provincial governments to set aside political and regional differences at this stage.
