KARACHI: Official cars provided to judges are not insured by any insurance company and the judges have to pay for compensation in case of any accident.
According to details, the Sindh High Court provided Toyota Corollas to 70 session judges, Cultus to 88 additional sessions judges and Mehran to 80 civil and 174 judicial magistrate judges a few months back, but none of the cars have been insured. In case of accident, the judges have to bear the financial loss or the burden falls on the judiciary.
This can be estimated by the letter written by Anti-Drug Special Court Judge Sanaullah Ghauri to the high court.
The judge, in his application, has appealed to the court that on November 6, he was heading back home with his gunman and his driver when he was confronted with a funeral rally in Federal B Area. He maintained that the protesters damaged his car.
A case was registered against the incident and the car was sent to a workshop for repair which cost around Rs153,000. The judge said that he had appealed for that amount to be reimbursed but to no avail.

For the brand new cars, it should be the duty of the car showroom owner to get the car insured with a renowned insurance company at least for the first five years.
The cost of comprehensive insurance premium should be added in addition to the car price.
In this way, the process of registration of the car will be completed before the car will come out on the roads and every document will become automatically transparent.
Then there will be no need for the car owner to display "AFR" number plate on the front and bask side of the car.
Moreover, no one will be able to charge the 'premium' on the brand new car in the open market.
Implement my suggestion, as this will definitely work to overhaul the who system of insurance, registration and accounting for the tax officials.
Whats the terms of official car provided? does it says in the employee contract that cars are provided inclusive of insurance? Judges can Judge this too!
Baring official cars for official use, cars available for personal use, should be taxed as well.
repair cost of Rs153,000 for a Corolla really? for Damage done by a funeral procession? Why on earth would a funeral procession damage someones car, especially IF the car had not done anything to the funeral procession?
why not judges pay Insurance by them self, they already getting good salary, and so much benifits from Government
