KARACHI: The government should refrain from blaming different political parties for the attacks on the Shia community and get hold of the culprits, demanded the Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) Karachi president Mohammad Abidi.

He was speaking at a press conference at the ISO head office in Soldier Bazaar. Abidi also demanded better security during the Muharram processions. He said that there are certain forces that want to create a rift among the different sects and are aiming to destabilise the country. “The only way to defeat such elements is to stay united and not get provoked by their doings.”

“It is time to arrest the killers of our leaders, such as Saeed Haider Zaidi, and others who were brutally gunned down,” he said, adding that all those involved in spreading sectarian hatred and violence should be given exemplary punishments.

On Ashura, the ISO is planning to take out processions where security would be provided by the Imamia Scouts, while the Majalis would be held at various Imambargahs. Meanwhile, the Muharram 9 procession would be held on MA Jinnah Road and the Muharram 10 procession at Tibet Centre.
