LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) has scheduled the first hearing of the secret Intelligence Bureau (IB) funds case for November 28, The Express Tribune has learnt.

Earlier, the apex court, in its detailed verdict on Asghar Khan’s petition, de-linked the case from the former.

Notices in this regard were issued to Attorney General of Pakistan and the IB Director General. Notices were also sent to the chief editor, printer and publisher of The Express Tribune along with the reporter who broke the story which brought the issue to light.

The notice issued by the SC Registrar stated that “While hearing the case vide order dated March 14, 2012 the attention of the Attorney General was drawn towards a news item published on March 14, 2012 in The Express Tribune, titled ‘Govt withdrew millions from Intelligence Bureau’s accounts’ which maintained that Rs270 million were withdrawn from IB accounts for the purpose of toppling the government of Punjab in the year 2008-09.

Notices were issued to the publisher, printer and reporter of the said newspaper, who produced certain documents to substantiate the allegations reported in the news item.  The news item may be registered as a civil miscellaneous application (CMA) and [a hearing for it] may be fixed in Court for a date after two weeks.”

May I suggest that former IB DGs Javed Noor and Aftab Sultan should be called to testify. They are honorable officers and will tell the truth.
