DI KHAN:

A security operative was killed while another was injured when militants attacked the Scouts Fort in South Waziristan during the early hours of Friday.

Meanwhile, the officials claimed that six militants were killed and 13 others were injured in the exchange of fire.

“Dozens of militants attacked the fort but the timely response of the security forces thwarted their attempt. The attack lasted around an hour from 2:00 am to 3:00 am,” an official said.

The injured security man was shifted to a hospital in Scouts Camp in Wana.

Tehreek-e-Taliban’s spokesperson for South Waziristan Asimullah Mehsud claimed responsibility for the attack. Speaking from an undisclosed location, he said that first a suicide bomber had attacked the fort and later the militants mounted the assault. Refuting that any of the militants were killed, Mehsud claimed that they had kidnapped a security official. However, none of the claims could be independently verified.
