KARACHI:

In response to orders for the arrest of the KESC CEO, the company has invited the parliamentary panel on water and power to visit its recently-constructed power plants in Karachi and personally witness the “unprecedented investment made into the company’s network in a short span of time”.

KESC Chief Engagement Officer Ghufran Atta Khan, while addressing a news conference on Thursday, said that KESC had already written a letter to Senator Zahid Khan, chairman of the Senate committee, inviting all its members.

Ghufran expressed hope that a detailed briefing over the achievements by KESC would help clarify the reservations of the Committee members.

Referring to the recent back-and-forth between the Senate body and the company’s chief, Ghufran said that the KESC had great respect for all the institutions, including the Senate and its standing committees. “We are fully aware of our responsibilities and it is our top priority to fulfil our commitments. Besides, we also recognise the basic rights of our company and the individuals connected to it,” he said.

Ghufran said the KESC had been asked to attend the November 6 meeting of the Senate standing committee. The chief financial officer, company secretary and two directors of the KESC had appeared before the committee on that day with all the data and technical details but were not allowed to speak, a press release by the company claimed.
