The replicas of the Mughal-era coins had been at the museum since 1968. Security arrangements will be tightened at the museum to ensure that such incidents do not occur.
Mirani told the media that the original coins were safe.
The museum’s clerk, Gul Hasan, has registered a case against three unidentified men. The robbers stole the gold-coloured replicas but ignored real jewels, swords, daggers, guns, books and idols.
