Targeted killings: ASI and a CID officer shot dead

KARACHI: Two policemen were gunned down in separate acts of violence in the city on Wednesday.

ASI Mohammad Rafiq, 35, was shot dead by two unidentified men riding on a motorcycle near Al Haider Sindh Balochistan Hotel, said the Memon Goth police.

They added that Rafiq was posted at the investigation wing of the police station and was shot dead while he was investigating a case at the hotel. He was a resident of Malir and had five children.

The body was taken to Jinnah Medical Postgraduate Centre.

In a separate incident, 45-year-old Saeed Mansoori, an officer of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) Anti-Extremist Cell was gunned down in a targeted attack in Gulistan-e-Jauhar in the limits of Sharae Faisal police station.

SSP Chaudhry Aslan Khan said that Saeed was posted at the CID cell two years ago and was working undercover as a physical training teacher at a private school in Gulistan-e-Juhar.

He added that Saeed was collecting information about extortionists and militants in the area and this could be the motive behind his killing.

He was a resident of North Karachi and had two children.

Sharae Faisal SHO Basheer Khan, however, claimed that Saeed was shot by two men riding on a motorcycle after he tried to intercept them from robbing a woman in the area.

He added that when he tried to stop them, they opened fire which killed him and injured a security guard of the school, Mumtaz.

Around seven policemen, including two CID personnel, have so far been gunned down in Karachi in the month of October.
