ISLAMABAD:

The finance ministry’s talks with International Monetary Fund officials have been delayed because officials included in the economic team representing Pakistan have not been issued visas by the UAE embassy in Islamabad.

Sources in the finance ministry said that the team could not proceed to Dubai for an informal meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening because of the holdup. The talks were to begin formally on Wednesday.

Embassy sources said the visa applications are expected back from Dubai by Wednesday. If UAE authorities do not issue the visas, the IMF team will be requested for talks in Pakistan or in any other country, a finance ministry source said.

An anonymous source added that talks on policy will be held in October in Pakistan, and a team headed by Jeffery Frank, chief of the review mission for Pakistan, will come to the country.
