Get the look: Purple Perfect

Vanessa Williams’ sublime sultriness reminds us of the strong wild cat.

September 11, 2012

Vanessa Williams’ sublime sultriness reminds us of the strong wild cat that is quite the loner much like our hottie here. However, today she is in the limelight not because of her panther-esque qualities but because of her killer fashion sense that stunned people at the New York Fashion Week. Vanessa took the plunge in purple and rocked long gold earrings and a larger than life sapphire ring.

Make-up

If we had a killer tan like Vanessa’s, we wouldn’t want to wear even a speck of make-up on our face. The actor is going au natural with just a pinch of shimmer on her face that works well under the light. She is however wearing a crisp, thin line of eye pencil and multiple layers of mascara. Try Maybelline’s XXL curl power to get a wide awake, flirty look for cheap as the mascara wouldn’t cost you more than Rs1,500. Also, try Mac’s Natural Finish bronzer that gives you that dusky glow without making you look cakey and made-up.

Hair

Vanessa tied her chocolate brown hair in a loose bun. To get this look just wash your hair and let it dry naturally. Then twist into a loose bun and give a bit of volume to your crown by combing a little and spraying hairspray.

Accessories

Big sapphire rings are available at shops in Park Towers that deal in precious and semi-precious stones. You could easily get your hands on something like Vanessa’s for Rs4,000 — Rs7,000. Long gold earrings have been in vogue for the longest time now and luckily you can find something similar at any jewellery shop. Gold toned jewellery usually becomes dull and worn out because of Karachi’s humid climate so make sure you get your hands on a good deal and wear them as many times as you can.

Outfit

Vanessa wore a purple jumpsuit-cum-dress at the Carlos Miele’s Spring/Summer 2013 show at New York Fashion Week. The actor looked extremely stunning in this piece with a bold neckline that she paired with a gold belt. To get this look, rummage through the racks of shops like Mantra, Monsoon (on 70% sale) and Next to find yourself something similar to this gorgeous purple piece by Michelle Mason.

The picture: I wouldn't call that purple at all. It's very navy. Fashion writers ought to get their colors right. Ideally use color names like "cerulean" which confuse the crap out of everybody but make you sound like you actually have experience or training in fashion :) Otherwise everyone will think they could be a fashion writer too :)
