QUETTA:

Syed Ehsan Shah, a political stalwart of the present coalition government and industries minister, has been disqualified for possessing and using a forged degree during the 2008 general elections.

A division bench of the Balochistan High Court, comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel and Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal, announced its verdict on a petition challenging Shah’s election on a fake degree, which was filed by National Party’s provincial president Dr Yasin Baloch.

The court ordered fresh elections for the Kech Valley seat. There is no report that the minister for industries had resigned from the cabinet, following his disqualification after the degree scandal. A close aide indicated that it is expected that Shah will challenge the high court verdict in the Supreme Court.
