Worker at Tandoor breaks record, secures first position in BA exams

LAHORE: It was not a usual day for Muhammad Muhsen Ali, working at his brother’s Tandoor, when he secured the first position in BA 2012 examinations on Saturday breaking all previous records in Punjab.

Ali, a private student hailing from Hafizabad district, is the eldest son of labourer Nazeer Ahmed among eleven siblings and works at a Tandoor in Lahore. Ali, who says he sleeps for not more than four hours a day, secured 688 marks in total.

On receiving the good news, his parents also arrived in Lahore from Hafizabad to celebrate, who found it hard to believe how well their son had done in exams. Customers and co-workers at the Tandoor told Express News that Ali was a hard-working person.

Ali hopes to continue with his studies and pursue a major in English, but regrets that the government has failed to provide students with opportunities and financial assistance – one of the reasons he claims he appeared as a private candidate.

The Punjab University announced the result of BA/BSc annual examinations 2012 on Saturday. As many as 1,43,750 students appeared in the examinations out of which 57,284 candidates succeeded in the examination, leading to a pass percentage of 39.85% this year.

Will makes the way for Ali. But…
less than half of the students passed, appalling. A lot has to be done in the education sector. In an era of human security, our defence budget thrives more than the education budget, and then a zillion useless ministries for beneficiary politicians. sad..very sad.

Heartiest congratulations to Muhammad Muhsen Ali who despite not doing a white collar job has secured first position in BA Exams.

While reading few other examples made by similar students, people belongs to lower class are coming up slowly and gradually while the students from the well to do families are lagging behind in their studies.

The core reason behind the success of Muhammad Muhsen Ali was that neither he was having the facility of internet connection, nor he had time to send SMS to his friends and colleagues.

Students who work hard are rewarded by the Al-Mighty Allah.

I am proud that Muhammad Mushen Ali broke all the previous precedents and have passed his BA exams with flying colours.

Muhammad Mushen Ali should become a living example for all those students who despite having all the facilities and time could not come up with desired results.

@ sam, good advice. The guy who is selling fruits after completing his M. Com. should have started his business soon after post graduation instead of wasting nine years in job search. I can guarantee that if fruit seller kept on doing his business with honesty and passion, he would be much better than his collegues who found clerical jobs in office environment.

    Bravo, young man!

Contrary to the oft-repeated talk of doom and gloom, Pakistanis are now taking education more seriously than ever. Youth literacy is about 70% and growing, and young people are spending more time in schools and colleges to graduate at higher rates than their Indian counterparts in 15+ age group, according to a report on educational achievement by Harvard University researchers Robert Barro and Jong-Wha Lee. Vocational training is also getting increased focus since 2006 under National Vocational Training Commission (NAVTEC) with help from Germany, Japan, South Korea and the Netherlands.
