KARACHI: Violence spread across different parts of Gulistan-e-Johar with incidences of firing after a political party worker was allegedly tortured and killed by police and rangers who raided his house, Express News reported on Sunday.
Five people, including two policemen, were injured in firing incidents in the area. Unidentified men forced shops in the vicinity of Pehlwan Goth and Rabia City to close down.
A heavy contingent of rangers and police was deployed in the area who managed to arrest two of the civilians responsible for the firing incidents. Incidences of firing continued in the area at intervals.
The body of the deceased, who was identified as Liaquat Bangash, was shifted to Jinnah Hospital where a throng of political workers assembled.
Bangash was arrested a year back by Crime Investigation Department (CID). He had more than 12 cases registered against him and had been released just a few days ago.
Here it goes again!

Shahi Syed of ANP always appears on media as most vocal opponent of political violence yet on the other hand his workers are involved in heinous crimes and they hostage the city if an action is taken against them.

CJ ll not take sou motto as the killed is a Pakhtun. In the land of favour, only might is right, no rule of law. Bangash was brutally tortured, and thrown down from fifth floor of his residence building.Recommend
ANP and PPP are destroying Karachi, yet MQM is blamed for violence. I ask this, if MQM is the real culprit then how come there was development and peace in Karachi between 2001 and 2007 when Musharraf gave MQM free control? How come violence always comes back when either PPP, PMLN or ANP are in government? This was true in the 90′s and it is true now. This means that PPP, ANP and PMLN want to either control Karachi or destroy it, and they are willing to go to any length for it.
A report by Red Cross documents how many innocent Karachiites were killed by the state machinery in the 90′s. Recommend
Reply to Khushal Khan….You seem to hv a very shallow memory or in the perputual state of denial like many of our friends in Pakistan…or obssessed with SC / CJ…SC / CJ has already taken suo moto notice last year when killing in Karachi had reached its peak & no political parties were taking interst in its settlement….CJ was in Karachi for 5 days & investigation was done & submitted report with recommendations, but those recommendation was not adhered to till today…so, what do you expect.If SC / CJ takes action, it is seen as over-stepping its constitutional limits…so , what do you suggest ? problem of Karachi is political & need political will to settle it…& nobody is prepared to sit & find solutions…solution is with PM / Parliament & the political stakeholders…not SC / CJ…I wud humbly request the SC / CJ not to interfere in such issues – whether it is Baluchistan or Karachi..maintenence of law & order is the responsibility of the provinces not the SC / CJ..SC / CJ role is not appreciated, so why shud they dirty their hands…any petition on such issues to the SC shud be forwarded to PM secretariate / Presidency / Provincial heads & the Parliament…which these political parties says..is Supreme….where Speaker is all in all..even abv SC / CJ…so let her take the shots…read the arguments between Aitazaz & the SC bench on ” disqualification of PM ” petition being heard now a days…wherein it is argued that Speaker is the final authority who can upheld her decision or dismiss any court orders…such argument for the first time added in the history of PakistanRecommend
@Omer:
Errrr.. wasnt 12 May in Musharaff’s reign or did PPP take charge for one day? And if all other parties are responsible except MQM why is it still in the coalition government? Why does it have so many “sector incharges” in every nook of every street in the city? Not saying PPP are angels, they have allegedly supported lyari gangsters in the past but here in Karachi its a turf war mainly between ANP and MQM and ALL resort to violence.

@ sick of this nonsense. May 12 was when PPP, PMLN and ANP were pumping and PR to malign Musharraf and make him less popular. Deaths on may 12 were all part of that. Otherwise how come the deposed CJ’s rally had guns with them? Also, you have not answered the questions how many target killings were between 2001 and 2007? And how many were there in the last 4 years and in the 90′s? So should get facts right before you go “ERRRRRRRRR”.

@ All anti MQM people. I don’t mind you having anti MQM opinions, but you still have not answered my questions. Also, if MQM is so bad, then how come they win majority of the seats from an 18 M strong city. Let me guess your answer, they terrorize all of them to get votes.
I am not denying that MQM has a militant wing, but that is a result of state machinery acting against in the 90′s on made up charges Jinnahpur and operation clean up. Further, parties like PPP, PMLN, JI and ANP all used violence against MQM and urdu speaking. MQM has done what it needed to survive. All of these charges on Jinnahpur were proved to be planted. Following is the proof.

@ sick of non sense,
The demographics of Karachi is changing and MQM is aware hence Mutheda rather than Mahajeer, if MQM is maturing as a political party then more power to them. This is the only party which has common interest with the people of Karachi, in the progress of this city, its a secular voice, is organized, is devoid of Nepotism, and enjoys massive public support, no wonder they get elected even when the government and Intelligence machinery is against them. The MI & ISI realize this, its about time other people as well. This is the only party which is seriously looking into issue like eradicating polio from Pakistan, providing clean water, land reforms, and eradicating corruption, the more power MQM has the better it is for Pakistan other wise you will be left with idiots you thinks its their birth right to rule this country….. Karachi is a city for any hard working men, women or children. Unfortunately only Mohajirs have taken advantage of it with their sheer hard work,

@Omer : Agreed!
@sick of this nonsense: im sorry but your arguments lack conviction. I’m not a big fan of MQM but as I am from Karachi, I must say it is the only party which actually works for the city.
