Pakistani athlete Mubeen Akhtar passes away

Published: June 14, 2012

Family confirms Akhtar died as a result of tripping over the staircase in her house.

LAHORE: Pakistani athlete Mubeen Akhtar died on Thursday after she sustained head injuries as a result of tripping over the staircase in her house, Express News reported.

Akhtar’s family confirmed the mishap and requested the media to not probe into the matter much. She belonged to Lahore.

The 20-year-old athlete had run 100 and 200-metre races and had bagged three gold medals.

She was also declared the fastest athlete in Pakistan.

During the 44th National Athletics Championship, Akhtar clinched the women’s 100-metre race after clocking 12.64 seconds.

Her coach, Bushra Parveen, while speaking to Express News said that her death was a great loss and it came at a time when she was about to achieve what she was striving for during the last 2-3 years.

“She was a very sensitive and innocent girl. She only had one aim – to be the best, to be a champion.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Akhtar participated in international championship in 2012. The player never participated in any international championship.

Its do not seems a natural fall from the stairs……it has to be probed by the concerned investigation agency if there’s any in Pakistan………..the death is dubious

THis is suspicious, very suspicious particularly the request to the media not to probe too much. ET please do your job and get to the bottom of this.

All these good, talented people who are also caring are dying all of a sudden. I’m actually quite sad about this. Makes one think about the finiteness of life. All these talented souls who have departed have made me realise this. RIP.

Suspicious yes…especially, when the family is asking the authorities to not to probe…fishy.

May Allah grant her Jannah…but yes, this does sound slightly suspicious….Might be a genuine request for privacy but the way it has been reported makes it sound a little dubious…

    Rest in Peace

Can ET please show her picture as well .. as we all know how much we care for our players except from Cricket, that no one knows them by names or faces only.

You guys above are the exact reason why their family requested some privacy. They just lost a young daughter/sister etc. Have you seen our media ethics? If a tragedy like this happens in your home would you want all the camera crew stuffed in your face???

Give them privacy. To us Pakistanis, everything that happens is suspicious these days.

Get a break people. you should not be calling her death suspicious sitting behind your computers. Atleast give the dead some respect. Nobody wants intrusive media inside their houses just after their 20 year old daughter dies. The family just wants to grieve in peace and there is nothing suspicious about it
