ASI, head constable shot dead

KARACHI: An assistant sub inspector and a head constable were gunned down at the Munda Chowk in Katchi Para within the limits of the Jackson police station on Sunday.

ASI Ghulam Abbas, 36, hailed from Chiniot and had been deployed in the Jackson police station one month ago.

He was also incharge of the Sikandarabad police check post while Talib Hussain, also 36, hailed from Bahawalnagar and had been working at the Jackson police station for the last four years, police revealed.

The murdered policemen had recently arrested some culprits from the Katchi Para area, which was dominated by a drug peddler, identified as Niazo.

The two policemen were patrolling the area hours before their bullet-riddled bodies were found on the road near Niazo’s den, SP Naeem Sheikh added.

The police took the bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico legal formalities.

The reason behind their murder has yet to be ascertained, said the police, who are investigating the matter. However, a case was yet to be registered.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of the slain policemen were offered at the Garden headquarters.
