Tennis: Aqeel, Yasir advance to semis

KARACHI: Top-seeds Aqeel Khan and Yasir Khan cruised into the semi-finals of the Subhe Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship men’s singles event being played in Islamabad. Aqeel defeated Usman Ijaz 6-3, 6-0 and Yasir outplayed Sadanul Haq 6-2, 6-2. Mohammad Abid and Imran Shaukat also booked a place in the last-four. Abid beat Malik Abdul Rehman 6-2, 6-3 and Shaukat brought down Mohammad Mudassar 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, Aqeel and Yasir reached the final of the men’s doubles event when they defeated Khurram Nazir and Imran Shaukat 1-6, 6-4, 10-5. They will now face Ijaz and Hameedul Haq, who outplayed Abid and Usman Rafique 7-6, 7-5. In the women’s singles event, Meheq Khokhar defeated Maham Mehdi 6-0, 6-0 and Iman Qureshi beat Sara Hassan 6-0, 6-0 to set up a final showdown.
