LAHORE:

Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) central chairman Major Gen (retd) Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz Khan on Thursday defended the appointment of Zahid Bashir as the Punjab chairman of PRCS. Khan said the governor could make such appointments and Bashir’s appointment was in accordance with the law.

He said the petitioners, Liaquat Ali Chishti and Muhammad Munawar, were blackmailing the PRCS. The court adjourned the hearing till May 8. LHC has already suspended Bashir and members of the PRCS’s Punjab Managing Committee. Some members of the managing committee including Chishti and Munawar had challenged Bashir’s appointment and later the appointment of the committee’s members by the governor. The petitioners contended that the governor had appointed members for political reasons.
