MUZAFFARABAD: Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary recently issued notice in the Nadia kidnapping and rape case and has demanded a report from the inspector general (IG) of Punjab on August 16.

Nadia, a Rohilanawali resident, was kidnapped from Muzaffargarh a month ago, sexually assaulted and then abandoned in the desert. On the girl’s testimony, the city police registered a case against Noor Alam and four accomplices.

The police arrested one of the accused, Nadeem, but after a few hours the investigation officer Mureed Hussain released him. “I had asked Nadia to come for an interrogation several times,” said Hussain. “We needed to record her official statement but she never came and no witnesses stepped forward so we had to release Nadeem.”

Police officials accused Nadia of failing to cooperate with the authorities.

The investigation officer added that if the court summoned him, he would present his stance as well as the case record before the court.

The court has demanded that the investigation officer appear in court and the Punjab IG file his report on the case by August 16.
