RAHIM YAR KHAN/ GUJRANWALA:

B Division police on Monday arrested two men accused of an acid attack on a eunuch for her refusal to drink liquor with them.

SHO Aslam Khan said the suspects, identified as Babar and Azhar, would be produced in a court on Tuesday (today).

He said they had been arrested following a complaint filed by Irfan alias Muskaan on Sunday.

The SHO said the suspects had admitted to the crime. He quoted them as saying that they had been drunk.

Irfan has been hospitalised for over two weeks at Shaikh Zayed Hospital. Doctors treating her at the hospital described her condition as ‘out of danger’. Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Ilyas Ahmed said over 70 per cent of her body had been burnt in the attack. He said she would be referred to a hospital in Lahore for plastic surgery once her condition improved to ‘stable’. This, he said, might take three more weeks.

Talking to The Tribune, Irfan said the two men had promised to pay her Rs800 in return for sexual favours and taken her to a house in Babar Colony. She said on her refusal to drink with them, the suspects threw acid on her.

She said they later abandoned her in front of her house in Dastger Colony.

Talking to The Tribune, Alishba Babli, her guru, threatened to self-immolate in front of the office of the Rahim Yar Khan district police officer if the eunuch died.

Man burnt ‘for not marrying cousin’

A man in Gujranwala was attacked with acid on Monday allegedly by a cousin for not marrying his sister.

Doctors who examined Muhammad Usman at Civil Hospital in Gujranwala said he might lose vision in both eyes.

Dr Major Muhammad Attique, in charge of the trauma centre, said they had referred him to Mayo Hospital in Lahore.

Peoples Colony police have yet to register an FIR in the matter.

SHO Anser Javaid said a case would be registered against Azeem and his accomplice Bilal once the paperwork was complete. Complainant Muhammad Shafi, Usman’s father-in-law, submitted that Usman had left the house on Monday afternoon on receiving Azeem’s call on his cell phone.

He said some neighbours later rescued him from a street near their house where the suspects had thrown acid at him and fled.

He said Azeem had bore Usman a grudge for refusing to marry his sister despite an understanding in that regard between the family elders.

Normally a eunuch is defined as "a castrated man", but in this article is referred to as a woman. What exactly is the definition of a "eunuch" in Pakistan?
