Hai leads National Golf Championship

Local golfer sits top after opening round in Lahore.

Pakistan’s Ali Hai fired a two-under-par 72 to end the opening round of the 51st National Amateur Golf Championship to sit top after the event teed off at the Royal Palm Golf Course in Lahore.


The leading national amateur golfer scored a birdie on the 13th hole and a sequence of regulation pars gave him the edge on the opening day. Golfers from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are also competing in the championship.

Bangladesh amateur champion Dulal Hossain followed Hai with a one-under-par 71, courtesy three birdies in the first round. Multan-based Ashiq Hussain sat alongside Hossain. Sri Lanka’s N Ranga, besides local competitors Ghazanfar Mehmood and M Rehman, are tied for third with a gross of 72 while Waseem Rana and Sajid Khan in fourth with the score of 73.

Meanwhile, the ladies event at the championship starts today with Ghazala Yasmin defending her title.
