PESHAWAR: At least three people were injured when a bomb planted at the gate of a tribal elder’s residence went off in Yousufabad, on Dallazak Road in Peshawar, officials said.
The house of Haji Firdous, a tribesman belonging to the KalaKhel tribe of Khyber Agency came under attack when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted at the main entrance of his house exploded.
Station House Officer (SHO) Hameed Khan present at the site of the blast told The Express Tribune, “apparently there seems to be no rivalry issue.” Though it could not be ruled out that the attack was revenge from the Taliban or other militant groups.
”Firdous is a property dealer from the tribal belt,” he said before adding authorities were still investigating the matter.
A Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) official told The Express Tribune that about one kilogram of explosive had been used in the bomb.
Two of the injured were identified as Amenullah and Adil Shah who had to be rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where their condition was said to be stable. While a third injured had only received minor injuries and was given first aid on the spot by paramedics.
The Kalakhel Tribe has been attacked frequently by militants because they have raised a Lashkar (militia) in their area against them. Previously, a school bus carrying children had also been attacked because of their association with the militia. Many of Kalakherl tribal elders have also moved to the city to escape attacks.
Correction: Initial reports had suggested that the attack took place at PPP-S provincial chief secretary Nadeem Malik's house, however detailed reports revealed this was not the case. The error is regretted.
