KARACHI:

A suspect identified as Habib Khan was arrested by the police for smuggling drugs on Thursday. Khan used to work as a volunteer and driver for the Edhi Foundation.

The accused and two accomplices, Gul Zarab and Faqir Mohammad, were caught smuggling 200 kilogrammes of heroin worth millions in the international market. The police claim that they managed to arrest the suspect with help from the welfare organisation.

According to Kharadar SHO Zafar Iqbal, the Edhi management had informed them about some of Khan’s suspicious activities. They arrested Khan for possession and sent the drums of heroin to the laboratory for testing. The police registered FIR no. 93/12 under section 69C of the Narcotics Act and was still searching for Khan’s accomplices.

Edhi’s Anwar Kazmi said that Khan was a volunteer and the other two suspects had no affiliation with Edhi.
