Sharjeel, Babar destroy HBL as ZTBL win

Batsmen hit superb hundreds in Faysal Bank One-Day Cup.

Opener Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam scored centuries to help ZTBL overwhelm HBL by 114 runs in their Faysal Bank One-Day Cup Division I Group A match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.


Sharjeel destroyed the HBL bowling attack as he plundered 163 runs from 128 balls. Meanwhile, Babar made a 115-ball 100 in ZTBL’s 349 for seven in 50 overs.

In reply, ZTBL were bowled out for 235 as Test players Humayun Farhat (52), Hasan Raza (47), Imran Farhat (45) and Taufeeq Umer (36) all got starts but failed to convert. Junaid Zia claimed four wickets.

In another match, Rameez Aziz scored a half-century and took two wickets to guide SBP to a nine-run win. Batting first, SBP were all out for 234 in 49.4 overs with Kashif Siddique making 57. Off-spinner Irfan Uddin bagged five wickets. In reply, NBP could only manage 225 for five in 50 overs despite Qaiser Abbas’ unbeaten 83.

In another Group A clash, PIA defeated Wapda by four wickets.

Meanwhile in Group B, Karachi Dolphins won by three runs against Islamabad Leopards courtesy all-round performances from fast-bowlers Tanveer Ahmed and Mohammad Sami at the Diamond ground. Set a target of 233, Leopards made 229 for nine in 50 overs with Afaq Rahim top-scoring with 65. Ahmed and Haris Ayaz took two wickets apiece, while Sami bagged a sole scalp.

Earlier, Dolphins were bowled out for 232 in 48.2 overs with Ahmed making 44 and Sami chipping in with 31.

In other matches, hosts Abbottabad Falcons beat Sialkot Stallions by seven wickets and Faisalabad Wolves downed Rawalpindi Rams by 61 runs.

Falcons beat Stallions by seven wickets
