LAHORE: Two people were killed in an aircraft crash in the Model Town area of Lahore on Thursday.

Express News correspondent Umair Ali reported that the aircraft, which belonged to Hybrid Aviation, had flown from Walton Airport.

The aircraft crashed in the porch area of House 143-H, which is reported to be near the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Two people, a man and woman, were reported to be flying the plane and both have been killed in the crash. The dead were identified as Anita Qureshi, a flight instructor, and trainee Waqar Asif.

The area has been cordoned off by the police and a large number of rescue teams have reached the site.

A police official, while speaking to the media, said that the wreckage of the aircraft could not be removed from the site as a team from Karachi would be coming in to examine the scene. He said the site had been isolated and non-concerned people were not allowed to come near it.

    Really sad. May their souls rest in peace.
    Should serve as an eye opener to authorities to remove the Walton airport from this vicinity. It has now come smack in the middle of population. It was an accident waiting to happen and could have killed a lot more people..

    Very sad indeed now we can get an idea how cheap type of aircraft we have :/ for such aircrafts I’d recommend ‘drive them’ don’t ‘fly them’!

    @Citizen:
    As usual no check on hovering residential area. Just like the kharak Multan Road Incident the owners of the aviation company will easily escape to other country.

    Aircrafts just dont go up in the air without any checks or regulations, its a serious business, this crash is an unfortunate incident, and all we can do is hope they RIP and in future there are no accidents.

    I have flown a Cessna 152 in Lahore and can say that there must have been a serious breakdown otherwise in the case of engine failure one could make an effort to land in a park in Model Town or on the road.

    @Khuldun: I agree with you. It’s an unfortunate loss of life but some people in Pakistan have no idea about what goes on outside of Pakistan. They don’t realise that the crash of hobby planes and smaler aircraft is a relatively common occurence all over the world. It’s a sad reality but they think it only happens in Pakistan because they don’t read or have knowledge of news in other parts of the world.

    i am the resident where the plan crashed… it was a miracle that we all are safe Allhamdulillah…
    my grandmother and grand father were sitting outside.. and i was about to leave for work just getting my shoes on when the plan crashed 10 feet from us.. it came down the sky with an extremely loud thud…. i rushed to my grandparents and hurried them inside but my grand father stood there traumatized… There was huge chance that the aircraft would have blown the fuel was all over the place and think black fumes where coming out of it…. i rushed to get water….grandpa took hold of the hose and i started filling up water buckets and started throwin it on the cockpit area where the fumes where comin out of…thankGod the fumes settelled.. it had been 15 mins and there was no sign of any rescue people… hence we took the decision to chop the plane with the availble resources to rescue out if anyone could be saved. we had a couple of butcher knives which we used to cut down the plane..moved the wings aside so if we could just get them out…35 mins have passed and still no sign of any rescue people… once we open up the cockpit…we found both smashed…. a horrifing sight… innalilllahe wa inna ilaihi ri ajioun… my BP got low n i was about to dose off but thankGod i didnt lost my senses… i recovered anitas phone..an iphone4 which was completely destroyed recovered the sim from it and started calling people in the contact list…. the sad news was givin n i again took the sim out of my phone…rescue people atlast came…. n took the bodies out…. plane is still crashed with the debris in my garage…
    once again Thank You God we are all safe.

    yes i agree with you.. i am not a pilot but i have read thousands of articles on plane crash.. few of my friend thinks this was an pilot error.. i strongly dis agree with them.. the pilot Sunita Qureshi was a friend of mine.. there must have been a major Mechanical failure like rudder failure or something.. its obvious by looking at the wreckage that plane came spiralling down.. i would like to have more comment from you as you have flown that plane. The inside story.

    @Humayun:
    I am sure there are competent people who will investigate this sad incident. I can say the following:

    We know that this is not weather related.

    We know that the pilot was well retained.

    The plane was very close to the Walton airport so it had not strayed, from model town any one can navigate to the airport by simply looking down.

    In case the plane ran out of fuel or had engine failure the pilot could attempt to glide to a road our an open space unless they were low flying.

    If there is an issue with the plane that occurred some time before the crash and there are two people on board I would expect one of them to try and make a phone call. We can’t say that was the case.

    These planes are quite old I think are only inspected visually for fuselage and wing cracks

    This was not a crash landing but a crash. They might have tried to land on the street but not made it so far.

    In conclusion I pray for their souls and hope that we as a nation will learn to follow procedures strictly and not cut corners.
