LONDON: Chelsea captain John Terry will face criminal charges for racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Terry has been ordered to appear in court on February 1 over the incident in a Premier League match in October.
“After careful consideration, I’m satisfied there’s sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it’s in the public interest to prosecute this case,” said Chief Crown Prosecutor Alison Saunders.
Meanwhile, Luis Suarez was banned for eight games by the Football Association for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra. Liverpool have reacted furiously to the verdict and have vowed to fight it.
