Tube Well Capacitors: Power company to save Rs5m per year

USAID said it was implementing assistance programmes, which also supported capacity building of DISCOs.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID), in its power distribution programme in cooperation with the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco), has completed installation of 379 low-tension capacitors on tube wells in three selected feeders of the power company. According to a press release, the capacitor installation was carried out as part of a pilot project which could be replicated.

“The installation of 379 capacitors has resulted in an estimated saving of 1.3 megawatts of power and will save Mepco over Rs5 million in revenue per year,” it said. USAID said it was implementing these assistance programmes, which also supported capacity building of power distribution companies’ (DISCOs). “We are about to complete IT training for more than 1,100 DISCOs staff,” said Dick Dumford, Chief of Party of the USAID’s power distribution programme.
