ABBOTABAD:

Another woman in Galiyat was injured by a leopard on Wednesday evening.

According to the police, Mehnaz Bibi, 28 was busy in household chores when the leopard entered from the front door which had been left open and pounced on her, causing injuries to her face and head.

However, the animal failed to drag her out after family members came to her rescue.

Villagers mentioned the beast had attacked another boy, Waqas whose younger brother, Sohail was killed in November while he himself escaped unscathed when the accompanying group threw stones at the leopard and chased him away.

Two children have been killed by leopards so far, besides various cattle heads in the area. Wildlife authorities had caught another leopard earlier.

Leopards do not attack humans unless they feel threatened or have developed a taste for them due to scarcity of game.

According to the authorities, there are over 80 leopards in Galiyat belonging to the endangered panthera pardus species.

The wildlife department, when contacted, rejected the report.
