The British Council and YES Network Pakistan launched the Youth Enterprise Generator Project (YEGP) to inspire and equip young people to become agents of change, said a press release issued by the British Council on Thursday.
The purpose of the project is to provide education and infrastructure for social entrepreneurship along with skills orientation, access to interest-free credit, business management skills, local and international exposure.
The British Council and YES have been working together for the past four years promoting self-employment through engagement in technical and vocational training. Now, the two have built the capacity to provide avenues by setting up the YEGP in universities of Pakistan.
British Council’s Salman Shehzad said on the occasion that the project “will support students to become self-reliant and contributing members of society through enhancing their technical and entrepreneurial skills and supporting start-ups as pathways to productive livelihoods.”
YES Network’s CEO Ali Raza Khan stated that it was a fact that private and public sector jobs are not growing at a fast enough rate to accomodate the growing number of graduates. “It is therefore essential that we support efforts of educational institutions to create youth centred enterprises for self-employment.”
