LAHORE:

The Research and Development Cell of the Pakistan Council of Science and Industrial Research (PCSIR) has designed 49 types of lab equipment and the government should tap into this resource rather than import expensive gear from China and the West, said PCSIR officials said on Saturday.

The officials told APP that PCSIR had supplied 768 units of these instruments to labs around the country. They said that PCSIR’s contribution to the scientific and industrial sectors would help the economy, besides ensuring huge savings on import of lab equipment. The federal government spends a hefty amount every year on the import of equipment from China and Western countries, they said, adding that PCSIR had learnt to manufacture laboratory instruments using indigenous technology. They said that the PCSIR-designed instruments had been tested and approved.
