According to an Al Jazeera report, the President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai met Sirajuddin Haqqani, leader of the Haqqani network in face to face talks.

However, the office of Hamid Karzai denied the meeting. Analysts claimed that Karzai is looking to form new alliances for the post-US withdrawal scenario.

Al Jazeera further claimed that Amrullah Saleh, head of Afghan intelligence and Interior Minister, Hanif Atmar might have resigned over opposition to assimilate Taliban in Afghan government. The officials had resigned earlier this month.

The Haqqani network is described by the US as one of the three main anti-government armed groups operating in Afghanistan, alongside the Taliban and al Qaeda.
