PETALING JAYA:

Pakistan number one Aamir Atlas was thrashed in the final of the Malaysian Open Squash Championship in straight sets by world number six Gregory Gaultier.

Atlas, playing his first tournament for Pakistan after his six-month ban, lost 11-8, 11-3 and 11-3 at the hands of the Frenchman who showed outstanding resolve as he forced Atlas out in just 43 minutes.

Atlas had reached the final after a convincing win over Australian Cameroon Pilley in the semi-final and had expressed his satisfaction with his performance.

Meanwhile, world number one Nicol David stamped her supremacy in front of the home fans to claim the ladies title, outclassing Jenny Duncalf in straight sets 11-6, 12-10 an 11-5 in 42 minutes.

“I was really focused today and very happy with my performance,” she said.
