Web savvy Governor Punjab, Salman Taseer uploaded his first YouTube video called ‘Talk to the governor’ on Wednesday, addressing the problems of some of the people who have  written to him online.

Following up on his fair success on Twitter with a following of over 1,800, Taseer had tweeted his newly set up public email account governorpunjab@salmaantaseer.com a few days back:

“My email governorpunjab@salmaantaseer.com don't all rush in case the server crashes!”

Punjab University imbroglio

The governor addressed several problems starting with the issue of the students of Punjab University, who had stage a protest outside the governor house, as their degrees were not being recognized. Taseer said that he had arranged a meeting with HEC and representative of the university and the problem was resolved.

Qadiyani debate

Taseer also received a mail asking him if he was Qadiyani. He addressed the question by saying that he is a Sunni Muslim but at the same time a human being as well, and his visit to the injured of the Lahore attacks was for humanitarian reasons.

Punjab militants

Speaking on the law and order situation in Punjab, the governor said that terrorist elements such as the Lahkar-e-Jhangvi and the Sipah Sahaba are present in Punjab. He said that there should be a zero tolerance policy towards such “hate filled” organizations.

Taseer also criticized the Punjab law minister for having relations with members of banned organizations as well as the chief minister for saying that PML-N shared the same thought as the Taliban. He also termed the CM’s actions as cowardice.

Taseer talked about ‘the glorious days’ of Muslim history, saying that such societies were tolerant and are the complete opposite of the sort of society the Taliban are aiming for.

On power

Talking about the concept of ‘power,’ Taseer said that power is not on paper but is based on the morals of a person. In this regard, he termed Benazir Bhutto as the most powerful politician of Pakistan, even now.

Taseer ended his podcast saying that he would continue to address the people’s problems as they come in via email.

Shiqra Shareef | 13 years ago | Reply For those who are comparing Salmaan Taseer and Musharraf, let me be very frank, Musharraf never adressed the public through videos moreover when he was in power he did not become web savvy! it was only after that for obvious vested reasons. Why are we as a Nation such big skeptics and critics? Any effort by anyone must be appreciated. I believe if all politicians realize the importance of interracting through modern ways then Pakistan can be a very different place. We encourage Salmaan Taseer Sahab to bring others to do the same. This will bring transparency into systems and people will gain confidence that they are being heard.
