ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan has pledged to grant more than three dozen visas to CIA officers as part of confidence-building measures following the US raid in which al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and humiliated Pakistan, officials from both countries said on Wednesday, but the visas have not yet been issued.

An Associated Press report says that the visas are part of an agreement to rebuild counterterrorism efforts by forming what Pakistani officials call a joint intelligence team, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.

The agreement was reached after talks in Islamabad between ISI chief Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha and CIA officials, including Leon Panetta, the officials said.

The visas will help replenish CIA staff on the ground, as some staffers were forced to leave when their visas were not renewed in the aftermath of the controversy over CIA contractor Raymond Davis, the US official said.

There will also be some additional officers allowed in to join the joint intelligence effort to hunt high value al Qaeda targets, the official added.

Despite promises from Pakistani officials, the visas have yet to be issued, officials from both sides said. The Pakistanis say it’s simply a matter of time but would not say when they would be given.

Our country is becoming worse than Somalia. Why dont our leaders and Kiyani learn from US history. US has worsen the situation of any country they went in. I think now the people should fight CIA & US themselves as our military forces and govt has actually put on “bangles”.
We dont want no not a single CIA man on our land, period!Recommend

    I can see whole mindset of ours is completely different than the entire civilized world. There are two ways to accept these basic things;
    1. Accept aid and expertise sincerely (I mean sincerely) and get best of it that we haven’t been doing. Our ISI and military can learn a lot from CIA personnel’s and they have in the past and get rid of rogue and fundamentalist elements in the Military and Madrisa. Have morel courage and accept mistakes and make a U-Turn with open mind (although painful, Japan and Germany did that) and take a path to progress.

Or just deny everything and be isolated and become a rogue country. Bring Taliban and every other contractor of Islam and be like North Korea, Libya, Sudan, Burma and post Soviet Union era of Taliban in Afghanistan to name a few.

In the case of accepting with sincerity can make you like Germany, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan to name a few.
Choice is our own but election of this choice can be in wrong hands.Recommend

I believe Kayani is compromised over the extension he got. The government would certainly not refuse a single visa, but the Army should have had declined the request for more visas. 36more CIA agents mean 36 more Raymond Davis and the local moles they install is a separate issue.Recommend

CIA… help ? Just one advice: see CIA’s activities in any country they are/were involved. From South America to the Middle East, and tell, have they ever helped anyone ? In Nicaragua, in order to make the legitimate rebels look bad, they ‘disguised’ themselves as such, and followed a ‘manual of terror’ (and I’m not even joking – the 300+ pages book is now available to the public.)Recommend

If some of you still like to read, here are few books which will help you understand how things work:

    1) White Mughals
    2) The Last Nizam (first half of the book)
    3) The last Mughal

Conclusion that can be drawn from these books: Don’t blame East India company, blame your own leaders of the past – stupid, narrow minded, uneducated, corrupt, greedy, and ignorant.

And, then move 100-200 years forward, to the current era and you will see how much stupid, how much narrow minded, how much uneducated, and how much corrupt, greedy, and ignorant the current leaders and generals and brigadiers are.Recommend

How in the world Zardari,Kayani,Pasha.Malik, jilani and other NROd are going to keep their ill gotten money in US,UK and Swiss banks, and sure enough that Pakistani ambassador to US is in cahoots with them and if anyone thinks that Mr.Haqqani is coming back to Iive in Pakistan ,they are living in the dreamland.I recall one obnoxious lawyer in New York City said few years ago about Pakistanis that they will sell their mothers for money.Well, the above mentioned gentlemen are selling the country for money. Thousands of Pakistani soldiers and civilians has been killed on behalf of US war on terror but still US congress and Hillary Clinton are mouthing off and smarting against Pakistanis. One BIG REASON IS THAT THE RULING CLASS IN PAKISTAN HAS NO SELF RESPECT OR SHAME. How could Zardari stay as President, it is just mind boggling. In the US, the citizens, post men and businesses are empowered to report to the police any suspicious activities of foreigners and specially middle eastern looking people, it does not matter whether they are innocent or not.It is time that Pakistanis should start doing the same to European looking people and report their movement constantly to the authorities. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY PAKISTANIS COULD MONITOR AND CURTAIL THE ACTIVITIES OF CIA.THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.CITIZENS GOT TO GET TOGETHER NOW BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT AND THE ARMY HAS SOLD OUT THE COUNTRY.Recommend
