Teenage girl found dead in canal

Police say she went missing from her home on April 14

LAHORE: The body of a teenage girl was fished out from a canal in Barki on Tuesday.

According to the police, a passerby spotted the body floating in the BRB Canal near Karbath Village Police Station in Barki and informed them. A team reached the spot and fished it out. They collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and recorded statements of eyewitnesses.

The victim was identified as Urooj Ghulam Rasool. She went missing on April 14. FIR No 114/18 was registered at the Barki police station after she went missing. Police are looking into the case.

In a separate incident, a minor and her mother burnt to death when a fire erupted at their house in Factory Area on Tuesday. The victims, identified as Rebecca, 29, and her two-year-old son, were inside the house when the incident took place.

The fire erupted and engulfed the entire residence. They suffered serious burns and were admitted to the Lahore General Hospital. The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.

A week ago, five people had lost their lives when a fire broke out in a plaza at Barkat Market.

Meanwhile, a young man died in an accident at Orange Line Metro Track in Naulakha on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Asim, 25, was on his way home on a motorcycle. Just as he neared Lahore railway station, a fast speeding dumper hit him on an Orange Line Metro track. As a result, he suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
